School Advisory Council (SAC)

The primary mission of the SAC is to share responsibility for guiding VME toward continuous improvement. Formed under the Accountability Legislation of 1991, the council serves as the final decision-making body for the annual SIP, ensuring that school goals align with both state standards and the specific needs of the VME community.

• SIP Development & Approval: Facilitating the creation and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan, which acts as a data-driven roadmap for enhancing student achievement.
• Budget Oversight: Assisting the principal in preparing the annual school budget and having final authority over the use of school improvement funds.
• Fund Allocation: Collaboratively deciding how "A+ Recognition Money" is spent to best support staff and students.
• Community Liaison: Acting as a bridge between the school district and the local community to foster transparency and shared governance.

To ensure fair and diverse representation, the SAC follows strict guidelines:

• Composition: Includes the principal and a balanced group of teachers, support staff, parents, and business partners.
• Community Majority: At least 51% of members must be non-district employees to maintain independent community oversight.
• Elections: Members are elected by their respective peer groups (e.g., parents elect parents).
• Reflective Representation: The council must mirror the ethnic, racial, and economic diversity of the school's population.

• Schedule: Meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of each month from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM.
